Inside A Bone

Outer Membrane: This is the outside of the bone. It protects the inner spongy layers of the bone.
Compact Bone: Compact bone is the hardest part of the bone. It is the second outermost layer in the bone. Inside this there are little canals and blood vessels to keep the bone healthy.
Bone Marrow: This is a spongy layer. There are 2 types of this, red and yellow. Red produces cells and the yellow marrow stores fat and energy. As you age, you get more yellow marrow and less red marrow.
Canals: These are inside the compact bone and carry blood vessels trough the bone.
Spongy Bone: Spongy bone has many little spaces inside of it, like a sponge. This unique structure makes it lightweight yet strong.
